New Delhi: India on Saturday scripted history by capturing the first two places in the men's triple jump event of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. After Eldhose Paul's rare gold medal win in track and field events, his fellow athlete from Kerala Abdulla Abubakar won the silver medal in the event. With this, India attained a historic 1-2 finish in the men's triple jump at the Commonwealth Games 2022. This is the first time in CWG history that two Indian athletes have got podium finishes. In past editions of CWG, India has won four triple jump medals.


Paul clocked his best effort of 17.03m in his third attempt. Abubakar finished second with an effort of 17.02m. He produced his best effort of 17.02m in his fifth attempt. Bermuda's Jah-Nhal Perinchief won the bronze medal with a best effort of 16.92m.

Mohinder Singh Gill had won a bronze and a silver in 1970 and 1974 editions while Renjith Maheswary and Arpinder Singh had finished third in 2010 and 2014 editions.






India's Sandeep Kumar won a bronze in the men's 10,000m racewalk event 


On the penultimate day of CWG 2022, India's Sandeep Kumar attained a historic bronze in the men's 10,000m racewalk event on Sunday.


Kumar clocked his a personal best time (38:49.21m) to finish behind gold winner Evan Dunfee (38:36.37) of Canada and Declan Tingay (38:42.33) of Australia.
