Sanket Sargar Wins Silver Medal At CWG 2022: Weightlifter Sanket Sargar opened India's account in the Commonwealth Games 2022 with a silver medal win on Saturday. He missed out on winning the gold medal by a margin of just one kilo. Sargar lifted a total of 248 kg, while Malaysia's Bin Kasdan, who won the gold medal, lifted a total of 249 kg. The Indian weightlifter lifted 113 kg in snatch and 135 kg in clean and jerk round. Unfortunately, Sargar flopped in the last two attempts of clean and jerk. The reason behind this was his injury. Sargar sustained an elbow injury while attempting a 138kg lift in his second attempt in the clean and jerk round.

It was a highly courageous move from Sargar to even attempt his third lift after that injury. The Indian weightlifter's total after the snatch and clean and jerk round was 248kg. After this, Malaysia's Bin Kasdan needed to lift just 4 Kgs to win gold.

Sanket Sargar, a resident of Maharashtra's Sangli, broke the national record in the Commonwealth Championship in December 2021. He won the gold medal in the tournament. Sanket has been the champion of Khelo India Youth Games 2020 and Khelo India University Games 2022. The athlete is eyeing the Paris Olympics to be held in 2024 and he wants to enter the 61 kg category in the mega event. Sanket Sargar had reduced drinking water and used to eat only boiled vegetables and salads to prepare for Commonwealth Games 2022.

India might see more medal wins later today as P Gururaja (61kg), Mirabai Chanu (49kg), and S Bindyarani Devi (55kg) will aim for the glory in their respective events.
