Chennai: A week after a Class 12 student was found dead at a school hostel in Tiruvallur district, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) conducted an inspection and found several violations in the hostel of the school.
According to a report on Times of India, Priyank Kanungo, Chairman of NCPCR, accused the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and child protection unit of being unaware of the rules. Kanungo said, CWC was unaware of the rules and regulations of JJ Act and said that there were several violations of the Act in the hostel.
Kanungo said that he found the violations after visiting the hostel and speaking with the family, investigating officers, doctors who performed the autopsy and CWC officials.

Based on the observation and interaction, Kanungo said, NCPCR will submit a report to the state and central governments at the earliest.
On Thursday, the NCPCR inspected the hostel of Sacred Heart school in Tiruvallur after a Class 12 girl was found dead in the dorm of the government-aided school on July 26. While police suspected that it would be a case of suicide, the family members staged protest and demanded action against the people responsible for the death of the child.

The death of the students started gaining attention after the death of a Class 12 girl in the hostel of a private school in Kallakurichi in July. While the school claimed that the student died of suicide, the family raised suspicion over the suicide claim.
Later, Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights said that the hostel was functioning without a license under Hostels Act.
