No suprises there. Payne was teriffic on the day and a key reason why the match ended without goalless despite being tested throughout the match by the Indians.
Would you believe it? Bandurack hits the post in the final seconds of the match. But it's ended goalless.
There you go. England Earn Penalty Corner With 19 Seconds To Go.
What a game this has been but no goals yet. No reason there can't be a last minute goal here, the way this game has gone.
Once again some great display of skill. This time it's England 's Zach Wallance. Almost went past 2-3 Indian players and was looking dangerous before Jarmanpreet Singh clattered his stick into Wallace. That costs Jarmanpreet a Yellow Card.
India's chance there but Liam Sanford with not one but two great interceptions. Brilliant defending from the Englishmen.
Another huge miss that from Waller. Almost a free goal there for Waller but he misses. He asks for referral but bit too late. It's all happening in Rourkela.
Pathak back between the poles as India stick to alternate keeper per quarter policy.
Still 0-0. Abhishek did get it past the keeper but it's deemed to have gone off his foot. India have already used their referral and would have to stay content with that decisio
And now England miss a golden chance. Sam Ward it was with a one-on-one with Sreejesh and no other defender for his help. But Ward has gone wide. Sreejesh did use his experience by cutting down the angle but Ward should have scored from there.
Another great save from the England goalie. The Three Lions allowed Hardik Singh to breach into the circle once again but Payne saved brilliantly. On the rebound again, Payne was alert. On the second rebound, Akashdeep had a chance to open the scoring but's it's wide. Stuart Rushmere got hurt, in the process. He is bleeding and will receive medical attention.
Condon messes it up. He was taking on the Indian goalie who was advancing towards him put a rushing Rohidas was also coming for the tackle. Condom hits it on the side of the netting.
Harmanpreet has been great in the defence so far even in the second half. While he hasn't been at his best with those penalties when it comes to defence he has been top of his game. Another example of just that as he blocks Bandurak's shot at the goal.
India have lost the referral. Even though Akashdeep was adamant that the ball came off Waller's body, it was deemed too high by the referee and India lost their referral. India wanted a Penalty Corner.
The Second Half has started here in Rourkela following the referee's whistle.
What a first half. India 0-0 England at Half Time. Time for a quick breather.
What a first half. India 0-0 England at Half Time. Time for a quick breather.
India dominated the dying minutes of the second quarter but on both occasions Oliver Payne produced superb saves. While the first one was a shot by Hardik Singh, the second one was by Vivek Prasad. Some great keeping by Payne under pressure which has kept it to 0-0 into half-time.
What a match this is turning out to be. No goals yet mind you but some great skill on display. That certainly looked like England's first goal after Park's pass into the Indian half where Wallace trapped it to perfection and penetrated the Indian circle. Pathak was almost forced to come out and ends up returning it to Bandurak but is Xess who comes to India's rescue with the help of a brilliant block. On the counter, India had their chance with Mukhkjeet making a move into the middle but Manpreet smashes it a bit too high.
Harmanpreet's dragflick which was deflected to Hardik whose mouth had been watering as he was unguarded with the ball in his control but the referee calls it too high. Undountedly, the home team's best chance of the evening.
Some great piece of rushing from Manpreet in this match. England have failed to get it past him.
England earn another Penalty Corner a result of some attacking brand of hockey. Ward to Zach Wallace who went for it but smashed the Indian goalie's pads after which the Three Lions got a penalty corner but they failt to score. Will these missed setpieces comeback to haunt England?
India have changed their keeper for the second quarter. Pathak replaces Sreejesh.
Not the ideal way India would have wanted to make use of their penaly corner. Poor trapping of the push and it is away from Harmanpreet's reach which means England easily avoid conceding a goal.
England exerting some real pressure on the hosts. Sam Ward this time around who was the real playmaker for England as he dodged a few defenders before going with a reverse stick stroke at the goal. But it's India's wall Sreejesh there who does a terrfic job to deny England a goal. However, it is deflected off Manpreet which means another penalty corner for England. No damage done though.
Almost a goal there from England but Manpreet Singh to India's rescue. England showing some great co-ordinated moves. Nick Bandurak, on left, and Liam Ansell, on right looked set to put England in lead but Manpreet raced as soon as Bandurak's flicked the ball. Penaly corner conceded and it's Manpreet again who saves it.
It's all happening here in Rourkela. So much action already and no player can afford to have their eyes off the ball. Surender Kumar was guilty of doing just that when the ball bounced on his leg and India conceded a penalty corner. Luckily, it's still 0-0.
First real chance for India there. Manpreet it is with a key role in that move as he aced a pass from around the centre into the circle. Credit to Abhishek too who showed some skill to trap the pass. However, no damage done as England defence is alert.
One can sense a bit of a nervousness from both teams especially when their circle is breached by the opponent. This promises to be a goal-scoring feast early on. Who will have the last laught?
A bit of a passing around from the India players. However, England aren't too far behind either. But Harmanpreet there winning it back in India's favour.
India are in their traditional all blue for this match. England donning the red jersey. The Men in Blue Playing from right to left.
There's the whistle and off we go!
India-England have 8 times in World Cups. While England have won 4 of these matches, 3 have gone India's way, with one match ending in a draw.
Both the teams are out at the park. What an electric atmosphere at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. Time for the National Anthems. First England's followed by the anthem of the host country.
Meanwhile in the other match of this Pool earlier in the day, Spain has defeated Wales 5-1. This was Wales' second loss in as many matches.
India XI: Sreejesh, Harmanpreet, Surender, Rohidas, Varun, Hardik, Manpreet, Shamsher, Mandeep, Sukhjeet, Akashdeep
