Defending champions India are having a remarkable run in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy 2024. After their impressive 8-1 victory over Malaysia on September 11 (Wednesday), the Indian team became the first to secure a spot in the semifinals. The Asian Champions Trophy is halfway through its pool stages, and with India securing three decisive victories in as many matches, their strong performance has placed them prominently on the league’s points table.

Under the guidance of coach Craig Fulton, India began their campaign with a 3-0 victory over the hosts, China. They followed with a 5-1 win against Japan and an 8-1 triumph over Malaysia. India's latest win ensures that they will stay at the top of the table at least until after match day 4.

Arch-rivals Pakistan climbed from fourth to third place following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Japan. With five points from three matches, Pakistan are now considered a strong contender for the second semifinal spot. Conversely, China fell to fourth position with three points from three games after their loss to Korea on Wednesday.

After two draws, Korea secured their first win of the tournament with a 3-2 victory over China in their third match. With this win, Korea moved up to the second spot on the points table, accumulating five points from three games. They had previously drawn with Japan and Pakistan in their initial matches.

Japan and Malaysia, both with one draw and two losses, occupy the fifth and sixth spots on the points table, respectively. Although they have the same number of points, Japan holds a better position than Malaysia due to a superior goal difference.
