Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Diaz has reportedly, made his decision to represent Morocco instead of Spain as his footballing country. The decision comes in a huge surprise as the 24-year old is enjoying a decent season at Real Madrid and coach Carlo Ancelotti has shown good amount of faith in the talented attacking midfielder. The news was broken by renowned footballl transfer guru and Italian journalist, Frabrizio Romano, on Monday, March 11.
Here's How Brahim Diaz Is Eligible For Both Morocco And Spain
Morocco and Spain have had some gruesome matches in recent history as both sidesd have fought neck-to-neck in successive FIFA World Cup campaigns, and the most famous one being the recent fixture, at the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar, where the African nation famously knocked out favourites Spain on penalties. What followed afterwards was a bitter and tensed bond between fans of the nations as they were indulged in an ugly online spat, where a clip circulated of a Moroccan fan mocking the Spanish national team by saying, "You.. a good team, Airport... this way..".
Since then, the fans of the nations are now supposedly rivals and this huge decision of Brahim Diaz can see him potentially face huge backlash from Real Madrid and Spanish fans at the club.
The major reason that makes Brahim Diaz even eligible to make this decision is the fact that the player has a Spanish mother and a Moroccan father, and was born in Malaga, Spain.
As reported by ESPN, rumours are circulating that the Moroccan federation is pursuing to make Lamine Yamal a switch as well. The Barcelona teenage sensation is one of the most in-form players in the world right now at a tender age of 16, and such attempts from Morocco has, reportedly, exposed the lack of communication by Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) with its players.
