Former FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, during his early days at the club, scored a world class goal that turned heads around the world, as the 'La Pulga' turned the defence of Real Zaragoza upside down with a sensational effort that near the halfway line, and Messi turned four defenders inside out, to leash a left footed shot in the back of the net, as the whole crowd chanted "Messi.... Lionel Messi was coming off his most successful year so far as the Argentinian won every possible trophy in the calendar year of 2009, and also had won the Ballon d'Or for the very first time in his career. Walking into his 6th season as a Culer, Messi crossed the 30-goal mark for a season for the very first time in the 2008-09 season, as he managed to score 32 goals. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner then managed to surpass that tally by scoring 47 goals and 10 assists across all competitions in the 2009-10 season. 


A highly dominating Barca side though suffered a heartbreak at the hands of Inter Milan, as the Serie A club ousted the defending champions in the semi final, in their own backyard, the iconic Camp Nou.


Lionel Messi then went on to have his worst FIFA World Cup campaign ever as he didn't manae to score even a songle goal, but such were his performances throughout the season that he managed to win a second Ballon d'Or in a row.
