Paris Saint-Germain crashed out of the French Cup after a 2-1 defeat to Marseille on Wednesday. Ruslan Malinovskyi scored the winner for Marseille who registered a win over PSG at home for the first time in 12 years. Their win has helped them reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

"We know that our supporters have been waiting for that victory for a long time. We are happy to share this with them," Marseille captain Valentin Rongier told France 3.

Meanwhile, this was the second time in a row that PSG made an early exit from the tournament.

"We made a few mistakes that cost us dearly," PSG skipper Marquinhos said.

"It's a defeat that hurts because it's a Cup match against our great rivals. We wanted to come back to Paris with victory and qualification.

"We have to do better, keep working and move forward."

While Sergio Ramos did score the equaliser in the injury time of the first half after Alexis Sánchez strike had put Marseille in the lead, Malinovskyi's goal proved to be the difference. Lionel Messi could not weave his magic at the Stade Vélodrome on Wednesday and could not find his name on the scoresheet despite getting a chance to score with a free kick. Neymar too failed to make his presence felt on Wednesday evening.

Earlier in the day, Nantes also registered a win over  Angers only in the penalties after Florent Mollet scored an 87th-minute equaliser as the full-time score was 1-1. In addition, Lyon also won a shootout against Lille to progress to the next round.|

Toulouse did well to see off the Reims threat who had been in pretty good form in the buildup to this match. Second-tier clubs Rodez, Annecy and Grenoble were the other teams that secured their place in the final eight.
