Lionel Messi is an athlete whose popularity is not restricted to just a particular region of the world. The Argentina captain had led his side to a FIFA World Cup victory in Qatar last year but his fans in India are still celebrating that historic win close to 5 months after that that eventful night at Doha in December last year.

Several videos showing the crazy fan following for Messi in India have surfaced on social media. These clips have emerged from Kerala's Thrissur Pooram Festival on Sunday (April 30). In these short footage, cutouts of Messi could be seen being displayed on top of elephants to celebrate Argentina's World Cup win.

Meanwhile, in not the most pleasing news for Messi fans, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward was handed a two-week suspension by his club for an unauthorised trip for two days to Saudi Arabia.

It is being learned that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner will be barred from playing or training with the team during this time and even his pay will be cut for the period that he remains suspended from the team.

His suspension affectively means he miss miss the team's Ligue 1 fixtures against Troyes and Ajaccio. He is likely to return for the LSG vs Auxerre game on May 21 but more clarity is expected on this matter in the days to come.

As far as the PSG's performance in the domestic league this season is concerned, they find themselves at the top of the standings with 75 points from 33 matches. Messi individally has been decent form as well having netted 15 goals and chipping in with the same number of assissts from 14 matches in the competition.
