Gianni Infantino Re-Elected FIFA President Unopposed, Promises Record Revenue For 2023-27 Cycle

Infantino's current appointment as the President implies that he will oversee proceedings until the end of the next FIFA World Cup.

Gianni Infantino is all set to remain the FIFA President until 2027. The same was confirmed after the Swiss was re-elected unopposed at FIFA's 73rd Congress in Kigali on Thursday. Notably, Infantino had replaced Sepp Blatter in this position in 2016 and enjoyed an approval from 211 member federations to remain the President.

Notably, Infantino had also been re-elected in 2019. In his message to the delegates, the 52-year-old said that he loves those who love him and hate him. While his appointment as the FIFA President seemed a mere formality this time around, not everyone rates him highly especially after his failed attempt to have the FIFA World Cup every two years.

His current appointment as the President implies that he will oversee proceedings until the end of the next FIFA World Cup which is slated to be co-hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.

"It is an incredible honour and privilege, and a great responsibility," Infantino stated.

"I promise to continue serving FIFA and football around the world," he added.

In addition, the newly re-elected FIFA President said that the world football governing body's income had reached a record level in the 2019-22 cycle. However, he has now promised yet another exponential raise for this cycle with an expansion of men's and women's competition planned ahead.

Furthermore, Infantino said that the organisation would continue to review the present system of transfer and make changes keeping transparency as their main priority. He said that having a salary cap can be considered.

Even though in practical terms, this is his third term, it will be counted his second since he was elected in 2016 in extraordinary circumstances following the resignation of Blatter. That implies, that he could well be in the race to serve another term after the conclusion of this cycle in 2026.
