Former Manchester Umited legend Robin Van Persie has been appointed as the new manager of the Eredivisie outfit SC Heerenveen. The appointment of the Dutch legend was announced on Friday, May 17, via official club statement. Robin Van Persie will be undergoing his first ever managerial stint of a senior football team, as he has previously coached U18 and youth teams of Feyenoord.










Premier League giants Manchester United also congratulated the club legend on his new journey and wished him well for his future endeavours. The Eredivisie outfir are currently 10th in the table and are neither in European qualification contention, nor relegation threat. However, his spell will resume from the 2024/25 season.

I would like to continue my development and the role of head coach fits in perfectly with that goal. I am therefore pleased with the opportunity that SC Heerenveen offers me. "Van Persie will be at the helm in Fryslân from next summer. The former striker of Feyenoord, Arsenal, Manchester United and Fenerbahçe retired as a footballer in 2019. After his playing career, Van Persie started working at Feyenoord as a specialist and youth coach. There he was ultimately responsible for Feyenoord O18 last season. At SC Heerenveen, Van Persie meets an old acquaintance with general manager Ferry de Haan. The two were teammates when Feyenoord won the UEFA Cup in 2002," read the statement.
