South Korea’s Cho Gue-Sung heroics against Ghana in their Fifa World Cup Group H match on Monday went in vain as his side lost a well-fought battle to the African nation. Riding on a 2-goal strike from midfielder Mohammed Kudus, Ghana won the match played at Education City stadium in Qatar.

Ghana drew first blood as Mohammed Salisu fired a left-foot volley from a cross by Captain Andre Ayew into the goal in the 24th minute.  The goal seemed to have propelled the confidence of the African side sky-high as they appeared in complete control of the game from that point on.

Ghana doubled their lead with another goal in the 34th minute with a close-range header from Mohammed Kudus. His header came from an assist by Jordan Ayew who whipped a perfect cross from the left into South Korea’s Penalty box. All that was left for Kudus to do was get a faint touch to direct the ball into the net past South Korean goalie Kim Seung-gyu.

Soon, Korea mounted the pressure in search of an equaliser but couldn’t break past Ghana’s defence till half-time.

However, the South Korean side picked up the pace in the second half with a noticeable change in their attack and got two back-to-back goals in a span of 4 minutes. Cho Gue-Sung put the first one in the net in the 58th minute with a brilliant header into the six-yard box from a low cross from substitute Lee Kang-In.

Minutes later, he put the second one past Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Zigi. In the 61st minute of the game, Cho Gue-Sung showed another spark of brilliance to convert Kim Jun-su’s cross from the byline into a goal with a header to score the equaliser.

However, South Korea’s relief was short-lived as Mohammed Kudus scored his second goal to win back the lead for Ghana. Kudus’s flair came from 12 yards out as he sent in a low ball into the net. Ghana held on to the lead till the final whistle with a strong defence as South Korea mounted high pressure in vain in search of the equaliser.

The win put Ghana in second place in the Group H points table behind Portugal.
