Portugal star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been surrounded with controversy after his bombshell interview, is in the news once again but this time, not for a controversial reason. One the eve of FIFA World Cup 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo's lifelike wax figure was unveiled by world's greatest wax museum, Madame Tussauds in New York. With this, the 37-year-old became the first ever athlete to accomplish a “Times Square Makeover”.

In a video posted by Ronaldo on social media, a huge crowd can be seen gathered around Times Square for the historic unveiling.

He posted the video with a caption that read, “Taking over Times Square with my new wax figure and showing Portugal to the world!”. The wax figure of the legendary footballer features him doing his trademark celebration in a Portugal jersey.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most accomplished football icons of our time, or as New Yorkers say, 'soccer,' and we're so excited to be teaming up with Visit Portugal to do this special Time Square reveal of his wax figure ahead of the 2022 World Cup," said Madame Tussauds New York Head of Marketing Tiago Mogadouro.

"We're cheering Ronaldo on as he captains the Portugal national team and is welcomed into the sports experience here in our New York attraction," Mogadouro concluded.

Cristiano Ronaldo, playing his fifth and probably last World Cup, will be keen to add another trophy to his cabinet by winning the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. The star striker will return to football action, leading Portugal in the tournament. Portugal will begin their World Cup campaign with a match against Ghana on November 24.
