In the latest update to the FIFA Rankings, India has recorded its best position since 2018. Their ranking saw an improvement after their recent performance in the Interncontinental Cup and the SAFF Championship. In both these tournaments, the Blue Tigers managed to lift the trophy and have thus moved up a spot in the FIFA rankings to take the 99th place. Notably, the Sunil Chhetri-led side won the 2023 Intercontinental Cup where they got the better of Lebanon 2-0 in the summit clash. They then went to bag their ninth SAFF title.

Even though this has been a great run for Indian senior men's national football team under Igor Stimac, the highest FIFA Ranking ever-achieved by India happens to be 94 which they had attained back in February 1996. As far as the top ten positions in the recently update to the FIFA rankings are concerned, there have been no changes whatsoever with European and South American sides continuing their dominance. World Champion Argentina are at the top of the rankings followed by France, Brazil, England and Beligium to make up  the top five.

Crotia is ranked sixth closely followed by Netherlands, Itlay, Portugal and Spain who complete the top 10 of the FIFA Rankings. India had earlier broken into the top 100 of the FIFA rankings for the first time in five years ahead of their SAFF Championship semifinal fixture.

Meanwhile, the official handle of the Indian football team also took to social media to share an improvement in their world ranking.
