FC Barcelona's misery in this season continues as they were defeated by an underdog side, Eintracht Frankfurt by 3-4 across two legs. The second leg, which took place on Friday at the Camp Nou in Barcelona, ended in a 2-3 defeat for the home team.

Both the goals for Barca came after 90 minutes, in a desperate attempt to salvage some pride from the game.

The first goal for Frankfurt was scored by Kostic. He sent Ter Stegen the wrong way slamming a penalty in the bottom right corner. Rafael Borre scored the second goal and Kostic scored the third goal of the night for Frankfurt in the 67th minute. The aggregate at this time was 1-4 in favour of Frankfurt.

Sergio Busquets and Memphis Depay scored the two goals on the night for Barca. Needless to say, it wasn't enough as Eintracht Frankfurt qualified for the semi-final of the Europa League.

“What we did was insufficient today despite the heroic attempt in the end,” said Xavi, Barcelona’s manager after the defeat. “It is very disappointing. We did not play well. We had control and possession, but found no spaces to hurt them.”

Barcelona is 12 points behind Real Madrid in the La Liga and thus, it looks like the 2021-22 season would be trophy-less for the boys of Barcelona.
