England's seasoned Test seam bowler Stuart Broad is on the cusp of breaking into an elite list of Test bowlers as he is just one wicket away from scaling the herculean 500-wicket mark in the longer format of the game.

The tall and lanky seamer produced a fiery spell of seam bowling to wreck havoc against the Windies in the ongoing third and final Old Trafford Test at Manchester as he dismissed six batsmen to help the hosts bowl out the visitors for 191 in their first innings.

After England set the Windies a daunting 399-target to win the Manchester Test, Broad was back in wicket taking action as he made early inroads into the Windies batting be removing opener John Campbell and nightwatchman Kemar Roach to reduce the visitors to 10-2 at stumps on Day 3. Roach also happened to be Broad's 499th victim in Test cricket.

In a 12-year old career which has seen him achieve many personal milestones ; Broad has scalped 491 wickets in 139 Test matches at an average of healthy average of 28.38. Broad will become only the seventh bowler in Test cricket to scale down the herculean 500 wicket milestone. He will also become only the fourth seamer after fellow countryman and seam partner James Anderson (589), Glen McGrath (563) and Courtney Walsh (519) to achieve the landmark in the longer format of the game.

The three spin legends of all time - Muttaih Muralitharan (800) , Shane Warne (708) and Anil Kumble (619) lead the wicket taking charts in Test cricket. Broad's formidable seam bowling partner James Anderson is the leading wicket taker among seamers in Test cricket.

Broad has been one of the spearheads of England's lethal pace battery for over a decade alongside James Anderson, Stephen Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, Steve Finn, Andrew Flintoff among others.
