Argentina's historic FIFA World Cup final win over France has got the entire world talking. Members from all walks of life including legendary footballers are all sharing their opinion with most people agreeing on the fact that this was one of the great games of football that they have witnessed. And now even the great Brazilian footballer Pele has shared his opinion on the match.


Taking to his Instagram account, Pele shared a picture of Argentina lifting the World Cup trophy. He congratulated Messi & Co. on winning the competition while also calling Kylian Mbappe his "dear friend." He ended his message by making a special mention to Morocco and the legendary Diego Maradona as said that the former Argentina striker would be smiling now. 


"Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in an enthralling way. Messi winning his first World Cup, as his trajectory deserved. My dear friend, Mbappé, scoring four goals in a final," Pele wrote.


"What a gift it was to watch this spectacle to the future of our sport. And I couldn't fail to congratulate Morocco for the incredible campaign. It's great to see Africa shine. Congratulations Argentina! Certainly Diego is smiling now," he added.

Pele battling colon cancer since 2021

While Pele has been on medications and under treatment, there was a bit of a scare when reports claimed that he had stopped responding to chemotherapy. However, later reports claimed that while his health has been improving, he still remains in hospital.


The 82-year-old has been fighting with colon cancer since 2021. In addition, he is also being treated for a respiratory infection which was diagnosed after he was hospitalised.


"The patient continues to show improvement in the clinical status, in particular the respiratory infection. He remains in a regular room, is conscious and with stable vital signs," medical staff at Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein Hospital said was quoted as per an ESPN report.
