India’s opening batter Shubman Gill played a brilliant knock of 92 runs during the ongoing World Cup 2023 clash against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. Gill however missed out on getting his first ODI Cricket World Cup century as he was dismissed by Dilshan Madushanka on Thursday. Gill looked in terrific touch as he kept attacking the Sri Lankan bowlers to the cleaners, hitting 11 fours and two massive sixes. He got out when he was just eight runs away from a ton as he edged that delivery straight to the wicket-keeper.

The fans who were present at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai were left shocked by Gill's dismissal and the reaction of Sara Tendulkar who is the daughter of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar doing rounds on social media.

Earlier, the Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and decided to field first. The Indian team suffered a major blow when they lost skipper Rohit Sharma but then Gill got support from Kohli and the duo went on to add 60 runs in the first powerplay.

Coming to play this game, the Indian team stepped out with an unchanged playing XI while Sri Lanka on the other hand made one change from the side that faced a seven-wicket loss against Afghanistanas they roped in leg-spinner Dushan Hemantha in place of Dhananjaya de Silva.

“Would have batted first. Obviously some assistance to start with but under lights there will be good assistance for our pacers. Great honour, great moment to lead the team. It's important for us to no get carried away by the performances we put in. Same team as the last game” Rohit said at the time of the toss.
