The support staff of the Indian cricket team, under the leadership of head coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour, recently took an adventurous trek to Triund in Dharamshala during the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. With a one-week gap between India's matches in the ICC World Cup 2023, Head Coach Rahul Dravid, Batting Coach Vikram Rathour, Fielding Coach T Dilip, and other support staff members decided to take a day off and go trekking in the hills of Himachal Pradesh.
Triund, a village situated at the base of the Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh, is renowned for its awe-inspiring views and tranquil surroundings. The trek covers a distance of approximately 9 kilometers and typically takes 4-6 hours to complete, making it a popular route for nature enthusiasts. However, despite the alluring natural beauty, Rahul Dravid expressed concerns about the safety of the cricketers. He emphasised that the trek was too hazardous for the players due to the challenging terrain and stressed the importance of prioritizing their well-being during the tournament.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently shared a video on their official social media handle of X (formerly Twitter), showcasing the Indian cricket team during their trek. In the video, Rahul Dravid and other team members can be seen sharing their thoughts and experiences regarding the trek.
"Super view coming here up to Triund. Getting here, going up the mountains, climbing It’s a challenging trek I must admit," Dravid remarked while speaking to the camera.
He went on to explain that he couldn't allow the players to join the trek as it would pose too much risk to them. However, he expressed his desire for some of the players to experience it when they have downtime from the matches.
“Unfortunately, can’t bring the boys here. It's a bit too risky walking on those stones but hopefully when they’re not playing love for some of the boys to come here and experience this,” said Rahul Dravid in the video.
Regarding the trek, Batting Coach Vikram Rathour also shared his experience, stating, "When you’re climbing up and the last trek is a little tricky, the last half an hour is hard but the moment it opens up everything is worth it.”
Meanwhile, on the cricket field, Team India have been performing exceptionally well in the World Cup. They have won all five matches they've played, securing the top position on the points table. Their next assignment will come in the form of England, the defending champions, on Sunday, October 29 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
