Unlike previous World Cup editions, this time the Indian team management counted on the young bunch of bowlers who have been doing phenomenal recently.

With the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Yuvzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, the men-in-blue began their campaign against South Africa on Wednesday at Southampton.

And guess what… these three World Cup debutants ripped apart the Proteas top-order.

After Bumrah wrecked the opening pair, Yuzvendra Chahal came in to bully the South African middle-order. The leg spinner struck when Rassie van de Dussen and Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis had stitched a 50-run partnership and were going strong.

In the 20th over, Chahal came to bowl his 2nd over and got rid of Van der Dussen off the very first ball. Chahal laid out his trap perfectly as he slowed down the ball through the air, got it to drift down the leg. The batsman attempted a reverse sweep but the ball dipped under the bat, clattering into the timber.

Chahal’s next target was the Proteas skipper who didn’t survive long and lost his wicket in the same over. Du Plessis made a wrong move as he went down the line but the ball sneaked straight through the gap between bat and pad.

Earlier today, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat against India in a World Cup match at the Rose Bowl here Wednesday.

The Proteas have lost their opening two matches, while it is the first match of the World Cup for India.
