Indian seamer Jasprit Bumrah attained a personal landmark during  India's World Cup opener against South Africa on Wednesday which also turned out to be his 50th appearance in the blue jersey.

Bumrah achieved the milestone when he took to the field against South Africa at Rose Bowl in Southampton.

On this occasion, the 24-year-old seemed to be at his lethal best as he claimed his maiden World Cup wicket in the form of Hashim Amla.

During the 4th over, Bumrah delivered a good length delivery outside off, making Amla defend from the crease. The extra bounce took the outside edge, and Rohit Sharma made no mistake grabbing the catch at the second slip.

In his next over, he got hold of Quinton De Kock who also edged the ball and ended up getting caught by Virat Kohli at the third slip.

Earlier, South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat against India. Injury-ravaged Proteas brought spinner Tabraiz Shamsi into the playing XI while playing two allrounders in Chris Morris and Andile Phehlukwayo.

South Africa's pace spearhead Dale Steyn was ruled out of the World Cup Tuesday due to a shoulder injury, while Lungi Ngidi too is nursing a hamstring strain.
