Yuvraj Singh-led Toronto Nationals locked horns with Chris Gayle's Vancouver Knights in the opening match of the 2nd season of the T20 League played in Brampton.
Gayle won the toss and put Toronto Nationals into bat after which they lost the opening wicket of star batsman Brendon McCullum early. Canadian opener Rodrigo Thomas then provided some fireworks with a quickfire 41 but Toronto's middle-order struggled to maintain the momentum.
Yuvraj Singh, who walked in at No. 4, was struggling with his tming and even found it hard to put bat to ball in his first outing since retirement in June, 2019. The World Cup-winning India star faced 27 deliveries and could only score 14 before being dismissed in a rather bizarre manner.
Yuvraj got a faint edge in the 17th over off the bowling of medium pacer Rizwan Cheema. However, wicket-keeper Tobias Visse could not pull off a simple catch but the ball deflected off the keeper's gloves to the stumps. Yuvraj's foot was inside the crease but Yuvraj started walking off the field even before the on-field umpire's made a decision.
Following Yuvraj's dismissal, Kieron Pollard walked in and smashed 30 from just 13 balls. The West Indies all-rounder hit 3 sixes and a couple of boundaries. South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen struck a 20-ball 41 as Toronto reached 159 for 5 in 20 overs.
In replay, Chris Gayle-led Vancouver Knights gunned down the target in just 17.2 overs.
