Varun Chakravarthy, the 'mystery spinner' from Tamil Nadu, caused a huge stir in the cricketing world after Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) bought him for a whopping INR 8.4 crore (42 times his base price) at the player auctions. However, his IPL inception turned out one of the biggest nightmares for him and his franchise.

Playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the 27-year-old conceded 25 runs in his first over which turned out to be the most expensive first over by any bowler on his IPL debut. It was Sunil Narine who smashed three sixes and a four to the leggie and punctured his confidence.

Here’s the video:

To Chakravarthy’s credit, after conceding 25 runs in his first over and nine in his second, he removed Nitish Rana in the 15th over, picking up his maiden IPL wicket.

On the other hand, KXIP skipper Ravichandran Ashwin, fresh from the ‘Mankading’ row against Rajasthan Royals' batsman Jos Buttler in the last game that sparked worldwide discussions, went for 47 runs in his four overs and was hit for five sixes—one every over—with Rana accounting for four of them.
