In a major relief to the injury-stricken Mumbai Indians (MI), West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph will be joining Rohit Sharma & Co. in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been roped in by the franchise to replace New Zealand’s Adam Milne who was ruled out earlier due to injury.

“Mumbai Indians have picked Alzarri Joseph as a replacement for the injured fast bowler Adam Milne for the IPL 2019. Joseph has featured in nine Tests and 16 ODIs for the West Indies so far,” the IPL said in a statement.

Joseph, a right-arm pacer, has picked up 25 Test wickets and 24 ODI wickets for his country.  His inclusion will further upgrade Mumbai's bowling attack after the return of Sri Lankan veteran pacer Lasith Malinga.

Earlier on Tuesday, veteran Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga was released by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to participate in the tournament. The board released a statement on its official Twitter handle, saying the fast bowler can now play in the tournament.

Mi had a losing start this season. They lost their opening game to Delhi Capitals by 37 runs on Sunday. They will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
