Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag feels that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma will have a great outing in the highly anticipated World Cup 2023. The premiere tournament will begin from October 5 in India with England taking on New Zealand in the opening game which will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Indian team on the other hand will start their campaign by playing against the five-time champions Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Earlier in the 2019 edition of the World Cup, Rohit Sharma had a great outing with the bat as he ended at the top of the run chart, hitting five centuries. The Mumbai-based batter scored  648 runs from nine matches at a brilliant average of 81.00.

While talking to ICC, Sehwag said that the openers will score a lot of runs in the upcoming World Cup.

“I think lots of openers because India has a good wicket, so openers will get more opportunities. I think if I want to pick one, I think Rohit Sharma. There are a couple of names, but I know I'm Indian and I should pick Indian, so Rohit Sharma.

"I'll pick Rohit Sharma, because when World Cups come, his energy level, his performance goes up. So I'm sure that and this time he's a captain also. So I'm sure that he will make a difference and he will get a lot of runs,” said Sehwag while speaking to ICC.

Cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra also stated that Rohit will make an impact in the World Cup. According to Chopra, Rohit will score at least two centuries and one daddy hundred as an opener if he plays all matches. The Indian team is currently gearing up for the Asia Cup 2023 where the Men in Blue will be facing Pakistan at the  Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, in Kandy, Sri Lanka on September 2.
