New Delhi: India launched their campaign in the Champions Trophy with a resounding 124-run victory over Pakistan at Edgbaston, extending their dominance over the arch- rivals in major ICC tournaments.
The Indian team was invited to bat first in a high-voltage encounter and the Virat Kohli led side didn’t disappoint as they fired 319 runs in 48 overs.
While India were clinical with both the bat and ball, their fielding left a lot to be desired and the Indian skipper wasn’t the happiest man.
Virat, in the post-match conference, rated India’s fielding as low as 6/10 and spoke of the need to improve if they have to go all the way to defend the title which they won back in 2013.
It was Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kedar Jadhav’s fielding attempts that highlighted India’s woes in the middle. Bhuvneshwar Kumar dropped Azhar Ali on 37 at the long on and Shadab Khan was handed a life line by Kedar Jadhav who dropped a sitter. However, the dropped catch didn’t hurt much as the entire Pakistan team was dismantled in couple of overs .
