Indian batting mainstay Virat Kohli's unending record breaking spree with the willow went a step further as he became the highest run-getter in Twenty20 Internationals, during his match winning 72-run knock against South Africa in the second T20 international played at PCA Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday.


Kohli's stellar half century helped India register a comprehensive 7-wicket win over South Africa in the 2nd of the 3-match series after the opener at Dharamsala got washed out due to rain.

Kohli went past the record of most T20 international runs held by his own team mate Rohit Sharma. Kohli now has notched up a staggering 2441 runs from 71 matches (66 innings), averaging 50.85. Rohit has amassed 2434 from 97 matches (89 innings). After the two Indian batsmen, the third in the list is New Zealand's Martin Gutpill who has 2283 runs in 78 matches.


Kohli has been a prolific run machine for the 'Men in Blue' in the shortest format and averages an astounding 50 with the bat over 71 games. With 22 half centuries to his name. the Indian skipper also holds the record for the most half centuries in T20 internationals.Β He is leading the list of batsmen with the most 50s in T20Is without a 100-plus score yet.
