South Africa posted a below par 149-run total against India in the second T20 international of the 3-match series at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali.
After Indian skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and invited South Africa to bat first, the Indians struck early as Reesa Hendricks played a loose shot off the bowling of Deepak Chahar to be caught by Washington Sundar at the long on.
Skipper De Kock kept the scoring rate high by scoring boundaries at will. The left-hander was particularly severe on Deepak Chahar. De Cock stitched a handy second wicket partnership with Temba Bavuma to take the Proteas past the 80 run mark at the half way stage . Bavuma took his time but then got into his groove and scored at a fair click.
De Kock scored a fiery half century before being dismissed by an absolute stunning catch by Virat Kohli off the bowling off Navdeep Saini. Ravindra Jadeja then struck in quick succession by dismissing Van Der Dussen with a brilliant catch of his own bowling.
Indians pulled things back a little with some tidy overs in the middle and death stages of the South African innings.
Bavuma eventually departed for a well compiled 49 as he holed out a Chahar Delivery to Ravindra Jadeja. Hard hitting batsman David Miller was outfoxed by a slower delivery by Hardik Pandya.
The Proteas finished their innings with a bang courtesy some lusty blows by all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo and Dwaine Pretorius.
Deepak Chahar was the most successful of the Indian bowlers, picking up 2 wickets and only giving runs in his allotted four overs. Navdeep Saina, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya picked one wicket each.
Brief Scores
South Africa - 149-5 in 20 overs - Quinton De Kock (52) and Temba Bavuma (49), Deepak Chahar ( 4 for 22)
