Ravi Shastri, the former India men’s cricket team head coach, recently shared an interesting incident from 2015 involving star batter Virat Kohli and his wife and a Bollywood actress, Anushka Sharma. Kohli ended his Test century drought in the second innings of the first IND vs AUS Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at Perth on November 24 (Sunday).

Among those giving Kohli a standing ovation for his century at Perth was Anushka, who was thrilled with her husband’s fine innings. While celebrating the milestone, Kohli too acknowledged her support and blew her a flying kiss. Notably, the match ended in a historic win for India who now lead the five-match Test series by 1-0.

'She Is A Big Support For Him': Shastri On Anushka

After the match, Ravi Shastri, while speaking for Fox Cricket, fondly recalled how, during the 2015 series in Australia, Virat had asked for Anushka to join the team. While wives of cricketers are usually allowed on tours, Virat and Anushka were still dating at the time. It was Shastri who made a special request to the BCCI for her to be allowed at the venue.

"I remember when I was the coach in 2015. He (Virat) wasn't married then. He was dating Anushka. He came and he said - only wives are allowed. Can I get my girlfriend in here? I said sure but he said that the board is not allowing it. So, I made the call. She came and she joined us there. In the very first match - the Boxing Day Test, he scored 160. The same scenes happened. The flying kiss went out just like yesterday. So, she is a big support for him," Shastri said in the video.
