The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday (April 30). While both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli feature in the side with Rohit trusted to lead the side in the marquee event set to be played in USA and the Caribbean islands later this year, there was a school of thought among cricket experts which reckoned that Virat should open along with Rohit.

Even though that could well be one of the possible considerations especially because both Rohit and Virat are opening for their respective franchises in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the BCCI has given a massive batting order hint in their T20 World Cup squad announcement post on social media. BCCI has seemingly posted the names in order of the position where they are likely to slot in the batting order or have put names one under the other when there are two contenders for the same position.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma Seem Set To Open For India In T20 World Cup 2024

If the abovementioned hypothesis is true and India's tried plan in the build up to the T20 World Cup 2024 can be backed then Rohit seems set to open along with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Virat Kohli, who perhaps played one of the most remarkabke T20 innings in the history of the World Cups and won India the T20 World Cup fixture against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) where the Men in Blue looked down and out at one stage, will liklely bat at the same number - the number 3 position.

There shouldn't be any debate as to where Suryakumar Yadav will bat. There are not too many players better than him for the number 4 place in the Indian contingent. Rishabh Pant then looks set to be the primary wicketkeeper-batter simply because Samson usually slots in the top 3 but in this Indian setup, there is no space for him unless an injury concern crops up midway through the tournament.
