While there is a lot of curiosity around the name 'Akaay', it is pertinent to note that the couple is yet to confirm which origin of the word they thought of before finalising the name of their boy. Among several origins of the word, one explanation is that it is derived from the word 'kaya' which means 'body' with Akaay meaning someone who is more than his physical body. The Turkish meaning of Akaay is 'shining moon.' Yet another explanation suggests that the boy is named after Lord Shiva.
It is believed that the names of Kohli's children are deeply rooted in Hindu beliefs with Vamika, their daughter, named after Goddess Durga. This time around the name chosen for their baby boy also finds an assocation with the Vamadeva which referes to the nurturing nature of Lord Shiva.
Following the announcement, wishes from cricket fratenity have flooded the internet with Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, Rajeev Shukla, Irfan Pathan among other members all sending their love for the baby boy and to the couple.
