Sri Lanka's historic triumph has enhanced its hopes of finishing in the top two of ICC World Test Championship points table. India and Australia currently hold the first and second positions in WTC Points Table, respectively.

Sri Lanka has moved up to third place in WTC points table, narrowing the point difference between them and Australia.

Following their first Test series win against New Zealand in 15 years, Sri Lanka's winning percentage in WTC points table has increased to 55.56. This improvement has sounded alarm bells for Australia, which currently sits in second place with a percentage of 62.50.

Australia will face India in five-match Border-Gavaskar Test series beginning in November 2024. The difference in percentage points between Australia and Sri Lanka is now only 6.95.

Sri Lanka has four Tests left in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. They are scheduled to play two away matches against South Africa in November and December of this year, followed by two home Tests against Australia in January and February of next year.

After suffering two consecutive Test losses, New Zealand has slipped to seventh place in WTC points table, with a percentage of 37.50 from three wins and five losses in eight matches. Series defeat against the Lankan Lions has dealt a major blow to NZ's hopes of qualifying for WTC final.
