India’s veteran speedster Umesh Yadav is excited to take part in the upcoming season of IPL as he will be plying his trade for Gujarat Titans as he got picked for Rs 5.8 crore at the IPL auction 2024 in Dubai on Tuesday. Speaking about the Gujarat-based team, Umesh said that he had already worked with head coach Ashish Nehra in the past and is set to learn from the former India player.

"I have spent quite a lot of time with Ashish Nehra and I know how he trains the bowlers and maintains a good dressing room environment. I believe Gujarat Titans will be a great franchise for me," Umesh Yadav spoke to JioCinema after getting picked up by Gujarat Titans.

Earlier, the Indian speedster represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Umesh is also part of the top ten Indian wicket-takers as he scalped 136 wickets so far in the IPL.

"I have played World Cup 2015 with Mohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami. I am excited to be playing at Gujarat Titans under Ashish Nehra. I am ready to learn and also teach the youngsters at GT if need be," Umesh added.

Umesh will soon join the likes of Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma and will hope to contribute to Gujarat’s stint in the upcoming season of cash-rich league. The last time Yadav played for India was during the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June and so far has played 186 T20 matches, notching 193 wickets at an average of 27.51 and an economy rate of 8.28.

Umesh played the last two IPL seasons for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), where he was roped in for Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2022 auction. The 36-year-old was later released from the franchise as he took just one wicket in eight IPL 2023 matches.
