New Delhi: Glenn Maxwell has declared Australia as a strong contender for the upcoming T20I World Cup which is to be played in October-November this year.

Maxwell says the Australian team is "good enough for the World Cup". The batting all-rounder has returned to the Australian squad for the T20 World Cup after a hiatus.

He said: "I think they are quite good. I think we'll be in a better position when the team comes together. We're ready for it."

It has been nearly eight months since Steven Smith, David Warner, and Pat Cummins have played for Australia. While Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Kane Richardson have also not played for the team for the last six months. But all these players are part of the Australian squad announced for the T20I World Cup.

Big Players Have To Play Important Role

Maxwell added, "You look at our line-up, this team has match-winners in it and they can snatch the match from the opposition team when it's their day. On any day any of our players can win matches and whenever that happens it will be difficult for anyone to stop us."

The Australian team has seven experienced players and these players will have to play a big role if the team has to move forward in the tournament.

Maxwell said, "The most important thing to win this year's T20I World Cup is to make a fast start. The team will have to get off to a good start at the beginning of the tournament and some batsmen will have to be in better form. The bowlers have to take early wickets and that will be our key to victory in the tournament."

Australia has teams like defending champions West Indies, England, and South Africa in its group. Maxwell feels the Australian players will have to put their best foot forward in order to move ahead.
