T20 World Cup 2024: Sri Lanka, on Thursday, May 9, have announced their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, as the Asian nation are gearing up to restore golry days of the past. The mega event is set to be co-hosted by West Indies and United States of America in the month of June and the carnival is just under a month to go now and almost every participating side have announced their squads. The squads announced are provisional squads and the teams are allowed to make desired changes before May 25.
The conditions will be friendly to Sri Lanka and the 2014 T20 World Cup champions will be optimistic to do well in the mega event, as they are the reigning champions of the Asia Cup T20 format (India won the latest Asia Cup but it was in the ODI format ). However, the side is struck with injury concerns and players coming off from a lay-off periods, and this will be major concern for the Asian giants, as their latest ICC tournament was one of the worst in their history, with them getting hammered by majority of the sides in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 India.
Sri Lanka will go into the tournament under a new captain and Wanindu Hasaranga will be aiming to see his side out of a tough group consisting of South Africa, Nepal, Netherlands, and their fiercest rivals — Bangladesh.
