Dhaka: Kusal Perera's 120 runs made sure that Sri Lanka scores a respectable 286 against a dominating Bangladeshi side. The third and the final ODI of the Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka series was won by Sri Lanka. Although SL won the match, Bangladesh had already won the series by winning the first two ODI matches. With this win, Sri Lanka has opened their account in ICC's ODI Super League.

Earlier in the day, Kusal Perera won the toss and elected to bat first. Sri Lanka had a quick-fire 1st wicket partnership between Gunathilaka and Perera but the innings slowed down as the match progressed. There was little contribution from the middle order, but then De Silva's sensible 55 in 70 balls helped Sri Lanka's score part the 280 mark.

When Bangladesh came on to bat, they lost the first three wickets very early in the innings. Mushfiqur Rahim, Mosaddek Hossain, and Mahmudullah scored 28, 51, and 53 respectively.. But none of them could score the runs quickly and they fell 97 runs short of the target. Dushmantha Chameera picked up 5 wickets and made sure that Bangladesh batsman do not put their necks out a lot while chasing 287 runs.

Take a look at what Captains said after the match:

Tamim Iqbal (Bangladesh): Lucky that we are on the winning side but there are many areas that we need to seriously work on. They had a very attacking mindset today, and we helped them by bowling lot of short balls, lots of width. When opportunity came, we didn't take our catches. If we had taken those, could have been maybe 30 runs lesser.

Kusal Perera (Sri Lanka): We needed a win badly, although we lost the series. Once I get set, I like to bat deep. That's why I batted like that (more calculated manner). I took my chances early, me and Gunathilaka. But after that, we needed to get the big scores and that's why I shifted gears. Our bowling department did a really good job.

This is the first series loss of Sri Lanka against Bangladesh and SL Legend Sanath Jayasuriya had expressed his dissatisfaction after the 2nd ODI. Former captain of Sri Lanka Sanath Jayasuriya had openly expressed his disappointment with the Sri Lankan team after their first series loss against Bangladesh.

"As a past player and captain, it’s very difficult for me to come to terms with the first series loss to Bangladesh. National pride is at stake boys fight to the last," Jayasuriya wrote on Twitter.

This is the first time that Sri Lanka was beaten by Bangladesh in an ODI series. Such a dismal performance by Sri Lanka, who once were the world champions in 1996 and then reached the finals consecutively in 2007 and 2011, is a rare sight. They changed the captain recently. Sri Lankan cricketers are not building a great reputation around their team. During South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka, when SL lost the series 0-2, some players were caught smoking, drinking, and getting involved in all sought of objectionable activities.
