Australia, on the other hand, have sent a relatively inexperienced squad, with the squad already securing their ticket in the World Test Championship 2025 Final after hammering India in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series.
Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis Included Despite Of Injury Scare
Sri Lanka have had a busy end to their 2024, as the side played home & away for the whote-ball and red-ball action against New Zealand, sandwitched by series against West Indies and South Africa.
The likes of Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis were carrying injury concerns alongside all-rounder Dhananjay De Silva, but inspite of that, Sri Lanka have named them in the squad set to face Australia.
The series is less than a week away, and Pathum Nissanka, who's carrying a groin injury, looks unlikely to feature and prove his match fitness in-time.
The result of this series will not have an impact on the World Test Championship table, as Australia and South Africa have already sealed the spots for the Final at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, England, in the month of June.
Lahiru Udara and Sonal Dinusha are the two uncapped players in the squad, and seeing that the series is merely a platform for experimentation, Sri Lankacan be handing these two their red-ball debut against the 'Mighty Aussies'.
