The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced the schedule along with the venues for the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The announcement was made on June 27 (Tuesday) and the world event is all set to kick off on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with England and New Zealand squaring off against one another. India will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8. Ever since the fixtures of the marquee event has been released, there have been all sorts of reactions coming in with most former cricketers, experts, pundits and fans expressing their excitement with the start of the tournament less than 100 days to go.

However, former India captain Sourav Ganguly put out an emotional tweet. While he did say that that he was looking forward to the World Cup in India, he pointed out that when he was the President of the BCCI, he had missed out hosting the T20 World Cup in India due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament was moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India had crashed out of the event in the first round itself.

Talking about the schedule, Ahmedabad has managed to bag several important matches including the curtain-raiser, the much talked-about India vs Pakistan on October 15 as well as the final on November 19.  As soon as the news of India vs Pakistan fixture in Ahmedabad was confirmed, prices for a base-category room in a five-star hotel has skyrocketed to Rs 50,000/night in certain cases.
