Shikhar Dhawan, the Gujarat Greats captain, was in splendid form in the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024 match against the Southern Superstars at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur on September 23 (Monday). In what was only the second match of the tournament for Dhawan, who recently announced his retirememt from all forms of domestic and international cricket, scored his maiden half-century.


Notably, Gujarat were in pursuit of 145, when Dhawan got them off to a blazing start, reaching his first 25 runs off just 12 balls. Along with Morne Wan Wyk, Dhawan put on a 63-run partnership off 43 deliveries before Wan Wyk was removed for 15. Dhawan, however, continued to bring his first half-century of the competition, getting past the 50-run mark off 37 deliveries.

Gujarat Greats Succumb To A Defeat


Despite Dhawan's fifty, Gujarat Greats succumbed to a defeat. No other batter batter barring Dhawan could play an impactful knock or build on the kind of start that the team had got with Greats eventually managing 118/9 in their 20 overs, falling short of the Southern Superstars total by 26 runs.

As far as the winning team is concerned, they might have been invited to bat first by Dhawan & Co. but it was an innings from Chaturanga de Silva that helped them get to a respectable total. The left-hander top-scored with 53 off 28 balls, playing a key role in the team's win.
