Scotland cricket team had a terrific run in the recently passed World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. They were on the edge of qualification for the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be played in India. But then their neighbours, the Netherlands played spoilsport by defeating them in a virtual semifinal at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Richie Berrington's team will now be focusing on the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier that begins on July 20. While concentrating on the same, Cricket Scotland declared their squad for the Qualifiers that will be held in Edinburgh.
Oil Hairs, who opted to retire from international cricket earlier this year, has reversed his decision and has been added to the side. Players like Bradly Currie and Gavin Main have also been included in the squad after missing out on the ODI World Cup Qualifier.
Back in 2010, Hairs made his debut and will bring in a lot of experience to the table. Currie’s inclusion is not a surprise as he had a great stint for Sussex Sharks in the T20 Blast. The 24-year-old is yet to make his debut for his country while Main, on the other hand, played his last game for Scotland in July 2022 against New Zealand.
These three cricketers will be replacing Alasdair Evans, Chris McBride, and Adrian Neill, who were there in the squad in Zimbabwe. Talking about Richie Berrington, who has been an iconic player for Scottish cricket has played 298 games and can play his 300th game against Jersey on Friday, July 21. The veteran batter is likely to become the first Scottish player to reach the 300 mark.
Scotland will start their campaign by playing against Germany at Goldenacre on Thursday, July 20. After missing out on ODI World Cup qualification, Scotland will be looking to make it to the 2024 T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA.
