Former India Selector Says, 'Nothing Unfair About Sarfaraz Khan Situation'

Sarfaraz Khan has not been able to cement his place in the Indian Playing 11 despite scoring truckload of runs in domestic cricket.

Sarfaraz Khan has been one player who has been consistently scoring truckload of runs in the Indian domestic circuit. However, desipite that he has not been able to cement a place in Team India's Playing 11. He was part of the India squad for the home series against Bangladesh but did not get to feature in the side.

However, former India selector Jatin Paranjape feels there is nothing unfair about Sarfaraz Khan situation. He feels that there is a good competittion for the batting spots and only as 11 players can play. He also added that the best any player can do in this situation is score runs which the Mumbai batter has been doing, referring to his double hundred in the Irani Cup fixture.

"There is nothing unfair about Sarfaraz’s situation. He was playing because someone else was injured. The competition for batting spots is so intense that, unfortunately, someone will always miss out. But for the guy who misses out, what can he do? He can just keep scoring runs, and Sarfaraz has been doing that in the Irani Cup. He needs to stay in good form, maintain his fitness, and his chances will come," Paranjape told Times Of India.

It’s not that he isn’t good enough: Paranjape

Sarfaraz will remain in contention for a place in the squad for India's tour of Australia but might have to wait for his turn.

"I feel he might also be taken to Australia as a reserve player. But it’s just one of those things—you can only play eleven players, and the best eleven get selected. It’s not that he isn’t good enough; it’s just that there’s a lot of competition for those spots right now," he added.

Before the Australia Tour, India will take on New Zealand in three Test matches at home with the series opener beginning in Bengaluru on October 16. The second and the third Test matches will be played in Pune and Mumbai. Sarfaraz does feature in this squad but might not get a place in the 11 yet again.
