Indian cricket team’s ‘Hitman’, Rohit Sharma will take the YoYo test on Sunday at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The test results will decide his availability for the upcoming tours to Ireland and England.

Rohit flew to the USA right after the conclusion of the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also went to Russia to attend the ongoing FIFA World Cup. He had already sought permission from the BCCI to fulfil his prior commitments.

According to PTI, BCCI’s GM (cricket Operations) Saba Karim has confirmed the development and said, “Rohit had taken permission from the BCCI for his personal engagements (he is in Russia as a brand ambassador of a watch company). There's no rule that all tests have to be conducted on the same day. He will be appearing for the YoYo Test on June 17.”

The YoYo test has become and essential parameter to define the fitness of a player ahead of any tour or series.

The cricketers who have been named in the limited over squad for tour to UK underwent the test on June 15. As stated by the board, all players except Ambati Rayudu passed the test. As a result, Rayudu, who made his comeback in the Indian limited overs squad after almost a year, was ousted form the squad and was replaced by Suresh Raina.

India’s tour to the UK starts from June 27 where the Virat Kohli led team India will play two T20Is against Ireland. Following that, they are scheduled to travel to England to play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs in the first phase, starting from July 3. After a 2-week break, team India will lock horns with England in a 5-match Test series starting from August 1.
