India captain Rohit Sharma showed the way yet again in the second innings of the India vs New Zealand first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After hitting his first two balls for sixes in the Bangladesh Test at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur to convey the message that they were going for a win in the rain-affected Test, Rohit yet again scored a blazing half-century after the hosts were bundled out for 46 in the first innings before conceding 402, to concede a heavy first innings defecit.
However, it didn't seem to matter to the Indian captain who was watchful for the first few overs before changing gears and going for the big shots in typical Hitman style. He even got to his fifty with a 4, 6 and 4 off successive deliveries. However, he fell prey to a bizarre dismissal with the right-handed batter going for a front foot defence off Ajaz Patel but the ball bouncing in the crease and spinning back on to the stumps.

Rohit was clearly frustrated with the way he got out but had already laid the template of how India were going to approach their second innings.

Half-Centuries For Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan
Even though India lost both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit in a span of 5 overs, Sarfaraz Khan continued the same template set by his captain getting to a half-century in 42 balls. Virat Kohli has brought up a brisk fifty with India's defecit under 200 and 8 wickets in hand. Both the batters look set for a big score as India eye a massive batting effort to challenge New Zealand on Days 4 and 5 of the Test after the first day had to be called off due to rain.
