Ravichandran Ashwin controversial statement: Rohit Sharma-led team Indian suffered a humiliating 209-run defeat against mighty Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Kennington Oval, London. Ever since the defeat, team management including captain Rohit Sharma have been facing constant criticism from fans and former cricketers, demanding for a major overhaul in Test team setup. One of the most controversial and talked about things before and after the WTC debacle is team management's bizarre decision to not include World's number one Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin in India's WTC playing XI.

Ashwin's absence was clearly felt in India vs Australia World Test Championship final. Despite high number of left-handed batters in the Australian team, the decision to keep Ashwin out proved completely wrong and was questioned by many former veterans including stalwarts Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly.


Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin has now himself taken a jibe at the team management citing example of positive atmosphere of team India under MS Dhoni.


“It is understandable that there's a furore in India that we haven't won an ICC trophy in 10 years. I empathize with the fans. But the reaction on social media is that this player should be dropped and that player should be included. But the quality of a player doesn't change overnight. Lot of us talk about MS Dhoni's leadership. What did he do? Ge kept it very simple. Under his regime, where I also played, he will pick a squad of 15. The same squad of 15 and the XI will play throughout the year. That sense of security is very important for a player,” he said in a video posted on his YouTube Channel.


Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as India's highest wicket-taker in WTC 2021-23 cycle WTC 2021-23 cycle, overall third after Nathan Lyon and Kagiso Rabada.
