Back in 2013, on this day, the Indian team lifted the ICC Champions Trophy under the leadership of the great MS Dhoni. He also became the first captain who led India to three different ICC title triumphs after the 2007 World T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup. This day is even more dear as India recently suffered a humiliating defeat against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 at the Oval in London.

India’s veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja came up with a tweet on the 10th anniversary of India’s win. He shared a picture of himself with the two trophies he won on the day of the final.

“GOLDEN BOY #missioncompleted”, he captioned.

As per the image, Jadeja is carrying two trophies, one was of  Player of the Match award that he got after his 25-ball 35 in India's 129 for seven in the final. The other trophy was the Golden Ball that he received after scalping the most wickets in the tournament. He had taken 12 wickets in 5 matches at an average of 12.83.

In the champions trophy 2013, team India started their campaign against South Africa at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff and marked an undefeated streak to top Group B, the Dhoni-led Men In Blue reached the knockout stage.  It was Shikhar Dhawan’s brilliant fifty and Ishant Sharma’s 3 for 33 that helped India beat Sri Lanka in the semis before an all-round show from Jadeja helped the Men in Blue to cause an upset to hosts England in the summit clash.

The Champions trophy win remains the last ICC title that India sealed. Post that, the Indian team lost two ODI World Cup semi-finals - in 2015 and 2019. Add to that, they also lost the T20 World Cup final in 2014 and suffered a semi-final exit in 2016 and 2022 although 2021 remains their worst-ever stint as they had to leave in a group stage. In the Champions Trophy, they lost against Pakistan in the final in 2017.
