After struggling with form in the recently concluded Test series against South Africa, Ajinkya Rahane has gained some confidence as he scored a century against Saurashtra on Day 1 of Ranji Trophy 2022.


Rahane walked into bat when Mumbai was in a difficult situation at 22-2. With Prithvi Shaw and Aakarshit Gomel out early, the onus was on Ajinkya Rahane to save Mumbai's innings. The veteran Mumbai batsman showed his class as he built a solid fourth-wicket partnership with Sarfaraz Khan.

At the end of 82 overs, Ajinkya Rahane's score was 106 runs in 234 balls with 14 fours and two 6s. Rahane's new franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was excited after the 100:






This century by Rahane would pump his confidence as the batsman scored his last Test century on December 28, 2020 against Australia at Melbourne.

Sarfaraz Khan also scored a century and took Mumbai's score to 252/3. (Note: The Day 1 play did not end at this score)


Ranji Trophy started today, i.e, on February 17, after not having matches for two years due to Covid-19. Total 19 matches will be played starting Thursday.


The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, has wished all the domestic players luck before the start of the Ranji season.
