Washington, Apr 6: MIT hosts a sports conference every year. It is called the Sports Analytics Conference, its aim is to “to provide a forum for industry professionals (executives and leading researchers) and students to discuss the increasing role of analytics in the global sports industry,” as per the conference’s website. The conference is organized by MIT Sloan students. It was started by Daryl Morey and Jessica Gelman in 2006. For the first time, MIT is having a panel discussion on cricket as well. India’s ex-Captain, legendary Rahul Dravid has been invited to speak at the MIT conference. The conference would be held on 8th and 9th April, 2021.

The name of the event which is going to be chaired by Dravid is called “Howzdata: How Analytics is Revolutionizing Cricket”.  As cricket is creating new avenues with the amount of money being put in the sport, this conference aims at discussing how ‘this old sport catch up to less-tenured leagues that have leaned on analytics and advanced technologies to elevate their level of play?’ The theme of this conference on April 8 and 9 is ‘Show Me the Data’, according to a press release on Monday.

At this virtual conference, Dravid will also be joined by other renowned cricketers such as Gary Kirsten, Alok Singh and Isa Guha.

Kirsten was the coach of the 2011 World Cup winning Indian team. Isa Guha played for England and is now a popular commentator.

Alok R Singh, director at Dell Technologies, will moderate this panel discussion on Howzdata: How Analytics is Revolutionising Cricket.

He has been actively involved in developing youth cricket in the US.
