Usman Tariq, the enigmatic spinner for Quetta Gladiators, became the focal point of attention during his team's encounter against the Karachi Kings in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024. Tariq, a previously unknown spinner bamboozled batters with his unorthodox bowling action and variations. Tariq's unique style, described as resembling a baseball pitcher, surprised viewers and yielded immediate results with a double-wicket maiden over.
With his enigmatic bowling action, Tariq dismissed Tim Seifert and James Vince on the first and last deliveries of the seventh over in Karachi's innings. Tariq managed to trap both Seifert and Vince LBW with his unconventional technique, sparking discussions on social media where some fans even deemed his action as illegal. The footage of his bowling has gone viral on social media.
Tariq's bowling technique has been likened to that of a baseball pitcher. His distinctive style involves winding his arm back with a high arm slot, resembling the delivery of a baseball pitcher, and then releasing the ball with a deceptive pace.

Misbah-ul-Haq Explains The Difficulty Behind Facing Usman Tariq's Spin
Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has shared insights on Tariq's action, emphasising that his precision as a bowler poses a considerable challenge for batsmen, particularly those who bat right-handed. Misbah-ul-Haq commended Taqir's bowling skills, highlighting his accuracy and the inclusion of a carrom ball in his repertoire. According to Misbah, Taqir's subtle spin makes him particularly challenging for right-handed batsmen to face.
"He (Taqir) has a carrom ball and on top of that, he is accurate. The spin is so subtle that it is just enough to beat the bat. For the right-handers, he is difficult to face," Misbah said on A Sports.
"If you play him like an off-spinner where the ball comes back in which we have tried and seen but all the batters make the same mistake when we think he is delivering the carrom ball. We try to play him in-line we plant our foot to play but him that subtle turn will get to you LBW or bowled. When you are facing your first or second ball as a batter in your innings even if you pick it you will make a mistake some way or the other," Misbah further emphasised.
