Rishabh Pant in IPL 2024: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, in an exclusive conversation with The Times of India (TOI), has stated that star keeper batter Rishabh Pant is expected to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) camp for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on March 5th, pending clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Rishabh Pant hasn't played any competitive cricket for over a year following his life-threatening car accident in December 2022. Consequently, the Delhi Capitals star missed out on participating in significant ICC tournaments such as IPL 2023, WTC Final, Asia Cup, and ODI World Cup.

"He has done everything to get fit and that’s the reason NCA will clear him. Let Rishabh get cleared on Mar 5 only then we’ll talk about captaincy backups. We are taking a cautious approach with him because he has a very long career ahead of him. We don’t want to push him in excitement," Ganguly told The Times of India.

Rishabh Pant to play IPL 2024 as 'pure batter'?

Previously, it was reported that the Delhi Capitals' management decided to free Pant from wicket-keeping duties for IPL 2024. The reports indicated that Pant would play IPL 2024 purely as a batter and captain.

Sourav Ganguly told TOI that Delhi Capitals have several wicketkeeping options available. Regarding the captaincy, the team management will make a decision accordingly.

"We will see how Rishabh reacts. He will be joining the camp once NCA gives him the clearance. We will see match by match. We can’t predict. As for wicketkeeping options, there’s Kumar Kushagra. Ricky Bhui has had a very good season. There is Shai Hope and Tristan Stubbs," Ganguly concluded.

Since his debut in 2016, Rishabh Pant has been a consistent for Delhi Capitals in IPL. He has led the franchise in 30 IPL matches, guiding them to victory 16 times.
