IND vs NZ HIGHLIGHTS: India Beat Kiwis For First Time In 2 Decades In An ICC Event To Top World Cup Points Table
ODI World Cup 2023, IND Vs NZ: India, with five out of five wins, are now sitting at the top of the points table with 10 points.
So India with five out of five wins go top of the table. More or less assured of a place in the semis but they shouldn't breathe easy as yet. They have four more league matches remainig before the knockout stage. New Zealand fought hard but were second best. Shami for his incredible performance, playing his first match this World Cup, was adjudged the Player Of the Match and fittingly so as New Zealand seemed to be in a great position until Shami & Co. returned to keep them down to 273. For now, that's it from our coverage of this game. We at ABP LIVE will be back with our coverage of other World Cup 2023 fixtures including India's next game against England in Lucknow. Until then it's good night.
Jadeja with that boundary as India beat New Zealand by 4 wickets. They go top of the table, courtesy of their first victory over the Kiwis in an ICC event in 20 years.
India win ! Jadeja with the winning shot.
OUT! Kohli looking for that hundred, gets out for 95. But he has taken India on the verge of a historic win over New Zealand in World Cup.
Boult With The Ball As New Zealand Look To Break This Stand. But no success for the left-armer. IND- 248/5 after 45 overs.
IND- 245/5. They need 29 runs from 36 balls.
4 Singles from that Santner over but India look in control now. 50 of the partnership as well. IND- 243/5 after 43 overs. Need 31 from 42 balls.
Jadeja with a counter attacking punch. Goes down the ground and goes ahead with a big shot which went higher than it covered the distance but the fielder slipped there near the fence otherwise there could have been a chance. But fortune favours the brave they say.
Santner goes for 5 runs. IND- 230/5 after 41 overs. They need 44 runs from 53 balls.
Concedes 3. IND- 225/5. Need 49 runs from 60 balls. Kohli On 71*.
Kohli looks determined. Not only in this innings. He wants to repeat what he achieved as a youngster in 2011. Another typical Kohli finish loading here in Dharamsala by the looks of it. He has just pulled Ferguson for a boundary to finish the 38th. IND- 217/5 after 38 overs.
Ferguson Bowling His Eighth over as New Zealand look to get into India's long batting tail this evening.
Glenn Phillips slipped in an over there. 7 off it. IND- 208/5 after 37 overs. Kohli-63*, Jadeja- 9*. Forget the players' dressing room, some nerves here in the newsroom.
73 Runs Needed From 84 Balls. What a contest this with India's last reconized batting pair out in the middle
Seems like this will be the match that will go down to the wire for India. However, Ravindra Jadeja the last recognised batter to have joined Kohli, has just hit Ferguson for a couple of boundaries. Breathe Easy Indian Fans.
Suryakumar Yadav, playing his first game this World Cup, gets run out. A huge mix up and the two batters were at the same end but then SKY tried in vain to get back. India- 191/5 after 33.5 overs. Santner/Boult/Latham affecting the run out.
Gets there off 60 balls. Another half-century for Kohli. India need him to close in another chase here in Dharamasala.
WICKET! What a review from New Zealand. Rahul gets out LBW for 27 off 35. Another half-century stand broken and a door open for the Kiwis to try and snatch this from India. Santner who insisted that the review should be taken off his own bowling. IND- 182/4 after 32.1 overs.
Kohli with another boundary to end the over. Superb from the chase master as he approaches another fifty. IND- 182/3. Kohli- 48* off 58, KL Rahul- 27* Off 34. India need 92 from 18 overs.
India- 174/3 after 31 overs with two set batters in the middle. KL Rahul- 24* off 30, Virat Kohli- 43* off 56.
Henry back for a spell, gives away 4 off his first. IND- 151/3 after 28 overs.
Lovely how these too, take the innings forward. The same template is being followed in this game. 5 singles and a wide. IND- 146/3 after 26 overs. They need 128 from 24 overs.
IND-140/3.
Ferguson And Ravindra bowling In tandem at the moment.
Rahul gets off the mark with a boundary. This Indian batting lineup isn't short of confident. After 24 overs, IND- 135/3.
Ravindra's overs or even Phillips if he gets a go would be critical. India need these two to put on a solid stand.
KL Rahul And Kohli in the middle then once again. Critical phase of the game this.
Boult brings a wicket. Iyer departs off a short ball. Conway with the catch at square leg. COvers good ground to get to the ball. IND-128/3 after 21.3 overs.
Boult has returned for a second spell as New Zealand search for a wicket.
Boult has returned for a second spell as New Zealand search for a wicket.
IND-127/2. Another match where if the oppostion does not come back it will be a bit too late.
Santner delivers a tidy over. Just 2 off it. IND- 119/2.
Two boundaries in the 18th over. India have just not let pressure get to them as boundaries have come easy. Another two from Kohli in the 18th. One through the covers and the other in the fine leg area, just helped along its way from the star batter. 18 overs done, IND- 117/2.
After 17 overs, IND- 106/2. Virat Kohli- 9* off 17, Shreyas Iyer- 25* off 14.
We are good to go here at the foothills of the Himalayas.
Would you believe it? Match has been stopped due to fog in Dharamsala.
He might have been helped by New Zealand fielders and bowlers but he has been in great nick, seemingly finding boundaries for fun, batting on 21 studded with five boundaries.
7 of the Santner over including a boundary from Iyer. IND- 91/2 after 15 overs.
Shreyas Iyer in at 4 and much like Kohli, he has started with a few confident shots already. IND- 84/2 after 14 overs.
New Zealand and Ferguson get another. Two in two overs now for the bowler as Gill goes for an upper cut but finds the third man fielder. IND- 76/2 after 13.2 Overs.
Virat Kohli in at 3 and he has started off on a positive note.
Ferguson picks up a wicket first ball. Rohit goes back for 46. He has dragged that one on to the stumps from outside the off stump. IND- 71/1 after 11.1 Overs. He was looking really good with four boundaries and four sixes.
Another powerplay that has been dominated by India. IND- 63/0 after 10 overs.
Santner introduced into the attack.
48/0 after 7 overs as India's openers are going strong. A couple of boundaries in the last Boult over from Gill. Previously, Sharma hit one of the most elegant straight sixes that you will see in a cricket match.
And now it's a boundary off the bat of Gill to end the fourth over. Through beauty. Beautiful. IND- 26/0 after 4 overs.
He flashes hard at it but manages an edge that went between the legs of Mitchell standing in the slips and away for a boundary. That's the end of the third over which was delivered by Boult. IND- 22/0.
And then a boundary with a flick to end the over. IND- 15/0 after 2 overs.
Out of the park for a 89-metre six on the leg side. Rohit means business this World Cup. He is not going to deviate from the plan a bit even though he was beaten outside the off stump with the swing. He goes down the track and smashes a maximum on the leg side.
Matt Henry with the new ball from the other end.
Four runs coming off the first over. IND- 4/0 after the 1st over.
FOUR!! The Hitman starts off with a boundary. Straying on to his pads and even though there were two fielders on the leg side, it is placed between them for a boundary.
What a chase this promises to be in Dharamsala. India need 274 to win. Rohit and Shubman walk out. The two unbeatean teams this World Cup. One will face a defeat today. Will it be India or will it be New Zealand? It's Trent Boult to Rohit Sharma and the run-chase gets underway.
India won the toss and elected to field first yet again. They got the early breakthroughs too with Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami striking but then the partnership between Rachin Ravindra (75 off 87) and Daryl Mitchell worth 159 appeared to take the game away from India. But towards the end, the Indian bowlers were spot on as the Kiwis lost their last six wickets in six overs. Shami the pick of the bowlers in his comeback match, finishing with figures of 5 for 54. Kuldeep Yadav picked 2 for 73 while Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah both finished with identical figures of 1 for 45. Mitchell's knock (130 off 127)was sensational though and that has propelled them to a total past 270. Interesting chase coming up in Dharamsala. Stay TUNED.
RUN OUT TO FINISH! India need 274 to win.
Shami Gets A Fifer. He has been taken for 10 runs in the over but he gets the better of Mitchell in the end. Caught in the deep by Kohli. Mitchell goes back for 130 off 127.
Shami To Finish India's Bowling Effort here. Can he get a fifer? 4/44 so far
What a comeback this is for India. Not even run a ball in the last few overs. Bumrah gives away just 3 in the 49th over.
It is Bumrah who is bowling the penultimate over here for India.
Ferguson survives the hat-trick. NZ- 260/8 after 48 overs.
Two wickets in two balls! It's a four-wicket haul already for Shami on his comeback match. He will be on a hat-trick next ball as he sends back Matt Henry for a golden duck. This time it's the leg stump that goes for a toss. NZ- 260/8 after 47.5 Overs.
Off stump is uprooted. Shami nails the yorker. Santner goes back for 1 off 2. NZ- 260/7 after 47.4 Overs.
Shami And Bumrah Will Finish Off THis Innings For India. Shami to bowl the 48th. He will return for the 50th.
Bumrah gets a wicket. It's not easy at the death against him. Chapman realises the same after getting out for 6 off 8. Kohli with a catch running in. NZ-257/6 after 47 overs.
Excellent From India. 6 Runs off the last 2 overs and a wicket. Mark Chapman is the new man in and it's not easy for him to do it against some of the best death bowlers. Siraj finishes his quota of overs. Just four from his last. NZ- 249/5 after 46 overs.
What a finish to a spell. He might have gone for 73 but has picked up 2 wickets and has delivered this over under pressure, conceding just 2 runs and picking a wicket. NZ- 245/5 after 45 overs.
WICKET!!!! They were sure waiting for Kuldeep's remaining over but Kuldeep was waiting for it too and was up for the challenge. He has bowled the second ball wide of Phillips' reach who has managed to sky it up. Three fielders were getting underneath it but Rohit Sharma completes the catch. NZ- 243/5 after 44.2 Overs.
With the help of Siraj's six, New Zealand fetched 11 runs from that over. NZ- 243/4 after 44 overs.
They were waiting for Siraj were they? Seems like as his first ball is deposited into the stands on the leg side by Mitchell.
That's really good for India in the last few overs. They have not allowed the boundaries. After 43 overs, NZ- 232/4. Bumrah concedes six in that over which saw a couple of great fiedling efforts from Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer to save boundaries.
It's Bumrah for now up against the some of the best finishers in death overs. Best vs Best.
Wonder when these two will accelerate as Shami finishes a four-run over. 1 over off Kuldeep remaining. Will they wait to take him on? NZ- 226/4 after 42 overs.
NZ- 222/4 after 41 overs. 3 came off the 41st. Glenn Phillips and Mitchell out in the middle.
100 off 100 for Mitchell. What a knock this by the batter who came in to bat with his side in a bit of a trouble.
41st over, India can now have five fielders outside the 30-yard circle. And it's Bumrah into his 7th over. Mitchell on 99.
Shami returns. Concedes 5. India have dried up the flow of runs a bit. After 40 overs, NZ- 219/4. Mitchell On 99.
Rohit happy with the five specialist bowlers. Kuldeep finishes his ninth. NZ- 214/4 after 39 overs.
Bumrah With A Four-Run Over. Mitchell is in his 90s by the way. NZ- 209/4 after 38 overs.
NZ- 205/4 after 37 overs.
And Kuldeep strikes! Much needed for India. Wickets the only way they can stop themselves chasing a stiffer target than what NZ will eventually manage and that is exactly what Kuldeep has provided here despite being a bit expensive today, getting rid of Latham for 5 off 7. NZ- 205/4 after 36.5 Overs.
Not the most economical over from Bumrah. Bit of early intent from Mitchell for a shot over mid off for four before a flick on the leg side off the last ball. End of over 36, NZ- 197/3.
Bumrah in for a second spell. Mitchell the important wicket for India at the moment.
NZ- 187/3 after 35 overs.
Kuldeep continues from the other end.
NZ- 180/3 after 34 overs. Tom Latham is the new batter for New Zealand.
Mohammed Shami breaks the partnership for India as Ravindra's catch is finally taken at long on by Shubman Gill. Ravindra departs for 75 off 87. NZ- 178/3 after 33.3 Overs.
Shami from the other end.
Bumrah drops Mitchell as India's fielding nightmare continues in Dharamsala. Went to him in the deep but he has dropped it at long off and the ball went for four. NZ- 173/2 after 33 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav continues after the second drinks interval.
Shami concedes 7 runs off his fifth over. NZ- 167/2 after 32 overs. It's the same set of batters who were out there when the first drinks was taken and that should tell a story. They have added 148* runs off 143 balls. Mitchell batting on 69 off 74 while Ravindra batting on 74 off 82. Post the early wickets provided by Siraj and Shami, there has been no luck for India. When will Bumrah return for his second spell?
Right-arm pacer Shami into the attack for a second spell. Partnership nearing a 150.
Hasn't been his best day on the field today. Kuldee's five overs have gone for 48 already even the fifth one sees him getting smashed for a six and conceding 13 runs. After 31 overs, NZ- 160/2.
Jadeja ends his quota of overs with 0/48. NZ- 147/2 after 30 overs.
And the wait for a wicket continues as KL Rahul drops Mitchell Off Jadeja's final over of his spell.
New Zealand- 141/2 after 29 overs.
Umpire raise his finger but Ravindra has asked for a DRS for an LBW shout. It's pitching outside leg by half an inch or so.
Another six from Mitchell after he came down the wicket first ball of the over. New Zealand fetch 7 runs from the over. After 28 overs, NZ- 138/2.
And now it's Mitchell's turn to acknowledge a half-century. Gets there off 60 balls. These two have been clincial in their performance with the bat. End of the Siraj over as well. NZ- 131/2 after 27 overs.
Jaddu concedes 3 runs off his eighth over. NZ- 128/2 after 26 overs. India definitely missing Hardik Pandya in this match.
Hard to stop the run flow if India fail to get a wicket. Mitchell with boundary in the midwicket region in that Siraj over as New Zealand get 8 runs from the over.
Mohammed Siraj for a second spell. He bowled 5 overs in his first.
NZ- 117/2 after 24 overs. Three doubles and a single off it. They are going at 4.87 runs an over so far.
Still Spinners bowling in Tandem as Jadeja is into his 7th. No Bumrah in the field as of now.
Just 3 off the Kuldeep over. NZ- 110/2 after 23 overs.
Ravindra's fine run in World Cup 2023 continues as he completes another half-century, gets there off 56 balls.
Brilliant stand this for the Blackcaps and continues to impress. 7 runs off the 22nd over. NZ- 107/2. Ravindra nearing a fifty. Batting on 47 at the moment.
9 runs off the over then and that's 100 of the team in 21 overs after the end of which their score is precisely 100 at the loss of 2 wickets.
And another maximum. Once again Mitchell down the track and with a massive straight six that has hit the roof. Pressure on India in a game they have only five bowling options.
Tidy one from the left-arm spinner. Mitchell manages a single off the last ball after five dots. NZ- 91/2 after 20 overs.
Jaddu from the other end. India in search of a wicket.
Two sixes in the over. One each from Ravindra and Mitchell. Is this where they start to up the ante? They have targetted Indias' key weapon in the middle overs Kuldeep Yadav. 16 coming off the over. NZ- 90/2 after 19 overs.
Meanwhile, Jaddu has slipped in another quick over. 2 runs off it. NZ- 74/2 after 18 overs.
Not to forget 50 of the partnership has come up between these two, Ravindra and Mitchell. How costly will that drop of Ravindra be for India?
7 runs coming off Kuldeep's first over then. NZ- 72/2 after 17 overs.
Kuldeep Yadav in the attack for the first time this match.
Four singles coming off Jadeja's third over. NZ- 65/2 after 16 overs.
Ravindra, Mitchell partnership working for the Kiwis so far.
Four and a single coming off that Shami over. NZ- 61/2 after 15 overs.
Ravindra starts with a straight drive for four after drinks. It's Shami with the ball in hand for India.
So Jadeja has slipped in with a quick over. Just 3 runs coming off it And it's Drinks here in Dharamsala. A session dominated by India before New Zealand starting to come back into this. NZ-56/2 after 14 overs. Daryl Mitchell- 14 off 18 with the help of two boundaries. Rachin Ravindra- 21 off 30 balls with the help of three boundaries. Siraj and Shami the wicket-takers for India so far.
A Ravindra single followed by that Mitchell boundary from that over. Those were the only two scoring shots. NZ-53/2 after 13 overs.
FOUR! Mitchell off Shami with an attacking stroke down the ground. Stand and deliver.
Rohit Sharma back on the field. So nothing serious.
Ravindra getting some momentum. Finds a boundary in that over. 8 coming off it. NZ- 48/2 after 12 overs.
Jadeja replaced Siraj. His turn to make up for that catch as he is immediately on with the ball in hand.
6 runs including a boundary from Ravindra after which his catch was dropped by Jadeja.
Out of all the fielders it is Jadeja who drops a catch. One of India's greatest fielders couldn't hold on to an easy catch at this level at point. Ravindra played an uppish stroke which went straight to him but out of his hands.
Ravindra was given out by the on-field umpire but took a review straightaway and as it turns out he had not made any contact with the bat off that Shami delivery but was still given out caught behind. Decision overturned and the batter survives.
Rohit Sharma stopped the ball off the last ball of the previous over and seems to have done himself some harm as he walks off the field. That means KL Rahul will lead the team in his absence.
That's the end the Siraj's fifth over which marks the conclusion of the first powerplay. Daryl Mitchell has walked in at number 4, by the way. And he has found a boundary as well. But four wides in that over from Siraj. 8 runs from the 10th over. NZ- 34/2.
8 runs and a wicket from Shami's first over. NZ- 26/2 after 9 overs.
Classical from the left-hander. Driven through the covers by Ravindra for his first boundary of the innings.
The wicket ball was on the shorter side in length but it was close to the off stump and was coming back in to the right-hander Young who tried to play it on the off side but only managed an inside edge.
WICKET! Mohammed Shami has a wicket on his very first ball in this World Cup. Young Departs for 17 off 27, his stumps ratted by the Indian pacer. NZ- 19/2 after 8.1 overs.
Siraj delivered a superb over, more or less hitting the line and lengths ideal for this pitch. Young finds the single off the last to prevent it from being a maiden. After 8 overs, NZ- 19/1.
A single after that boundary and those were the only scoring shots coming in that over. After 7 overs, NZ- 18/1.
Young finds the boundary. Didn't look in complete control but effective as Young tried to slice the ball but it took a thicking outside edge, past the slip cordan and beating the third man fielder for a boundary.
And Siraj follows with another 2-run over. Some great bowling from India. But assistance from the surface too. NZ-13/1 after 6 overs.
Just 2 singles off the fifth over then. A single each from the bat of Ravindra and Young. NZ- 11/1 after 5 overs.
India have lost a DRS there early in the innings. Bumrah in the third ball of the fifth over, got it in to the new left-handed batter Rachin Ravindra. But the ball was drifting down leg. Umpire's decision was upheld.
That's the end of a successful over from Siraj. Wicket maiden from the pacer. Iyer with a sharp catch at square leg that made that wicket possible. After 4 overs, NZ- 9/1.
India have an early wicket in Dharamsala! Conway departs for a 9-ball duck and it's Siraj who strikes. NZ- 9/1 after 3.3 overs.
As expected, Siraj will continue. Both the bowlers are likely to bowl through this first 10 overs of play, unless something dramatic happens.
An over with started with a boundary was finished with five dots. At the end of 3 overs, NZ- 9/0.
First ball that Young faced of Bumrah and it's a boundary. He almost decided to leave it before a last-minute decision to play it towards the third man region. Deft touch, played so fine that it beat Siraj at the fence for a boundary.
A single towards the third-man region to end the over from the bat of Young. And that's the end of the over. NZ- 5/0 after 2 overs. Good start from both the sides so far.
And it's a boundary off the bat of Young, the first runs of the match. Bit of width on offer and that was Young needed to free his arms off the second ball of the over.
Mohammed Siraj it is from the other end for India.
Bumrah starts with a maiden. On target as usual. Fuller and the off-stump channel. Respect shown by Conway. NZ- 0/0 after the 1st over.
Here we go then IND vs NZ gets underway. Jasprit Bumrah with the ball in hand up against Devon Conway. Will Young the other opener.

Background
India vs New Zealand Live Score: Hello and welcome to live coverage of IND vs NZ ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match. India vs New Zealand ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 match will take place on October 22, 2023 at 14:00 IST at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala. India vs New Zealand ODI World Cup 2023 match is expected to be a thriller. The teams of India and New Zealand will square off in the 21st match of ICC World Cup 2023 tournament on Sunday (October 22) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
Both India and New Zealand have maintained a flawless record so far, having won all four of their matches. New Zealand currently leads the pack with an impressive net run rate of 1.923, closely followed by India, who also boasts a strong NRR of 1.659.
Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, enter this match on the back of a convincing seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh, while the Black Caps dominated Afghanistan with a 149-run win in their last game. This upcoming showdown promises to be a thrilling contest, as both sides are yet to experience a defeat in the tournament.
However, India has encountered a significant setback with the absence of their star all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, who suffered an ankle injury during the match against Bangladesh in Pune. Due to his unavailability, the team lineup is expected to undergo at least two changes. Most likely, Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan will step in for Hardik, and Mohammed Shami will likely replace Shardul Thakur in the number 8 position to strengthen the pace bowling attack.
Shifting our focus to New Zealand's bowling attack, considering their strong performances, Tim Southee may need to spend more time on the sidelines. Unfortunately, Kane Williamson is still sidelined with a thumb injury, so it's unlikely that New Zealand will make any changes to their lineup.
Probable XI for India and New Zealand
India: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Suryakumar Yadav / Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur / Mohammad Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
New Zealand: Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Tom Latham (c, wk), Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult
